Solid wood American made furniture can add a warm, rustic feel to any room. When you purchase a new piece of furniture made of solid wood, you want to showcase it and use accessories that accentuate its natural beauty. Here are some great design tips for bringing together a room decorated with solid wood furniture.

Remember to keep your major pieces of furniture all in the same wood tone. Your room will have an overall more cohesive look, but you can still use a different type of wood in the accents and accessories. In order to create a smooth design flow throughout your house, incorporate accessory pieces from the major wood tone of another room. If you have a room that is primarily decorated with cherry wood, and another room that has pine – use a cherry end table or other small accessory to keep the house from looking disjointed. Make sure, however, not to use too many wood tones. Three is a good maximum for one room, and even then you should have one that is only sparsely used. Balance rooms that use a variety of wood tones by placing them spread equally throughout; if you leave all of the dark toned pieces on one side of the room and the light on the other you will create an unattractive imbalance.

You can mimic wood tones used in a room with the upholstery in your other furniture to really tie a room together. On the other hand, if most of your wood pieces are the same color, you won’t want to flood the room, so use the upholstery for contrast. Always live by the color principle of 60-30-10, three colors that define a room, used in those percentages. If most of your wood is the same color, then bring in an upholstered piece that is a different, but complementary color to fill 30 percent of the room. Use accessories that stand out for the other ten percent to create a smooth, aesthetically pleasing look.

You can pair your wonderful made in America wood furniture with American made leather and upholstered furniture as well, creating a living space that supports U.S. quality and manufacturing. We have featured an entire section in our blog of made in America living room furniture that is a perfect match to many of our featured solid wood items as well. If you’re looking for accessories to go with your American made home, look for things on shops such as Etsy or ShopEnvy. There, you can find handmade goods from artisans right here in the United States and buy one of a kind accents and accessories for your home.

We hope you enjoy decorating your room around that fantastic piece of solid wood furniture and check out some of our other blogs for maintenance and care so that you can keep your piece looking beautiful for as long as possible.
