Crayola was started by cousins Edwin Binny and C. Harold Smith, when they took over Edwin’s father’s pigment business in 1885. Once realizing that there was a demand for safe, high quality, affordable wax crayons, they created Crayola and produced their first box of 8 crayons. Since then Crayola has evolved into manufacturing a vast array of innovative supplies for arts and crafts that give kids the power to express themselves and develop as grow up.

Partnering with Hallmark Cards for many years, the company carried the name of its founders, Binney & Smith, then in 2007 ultimately changed the name to Crayola to reflect the brand as a whole. Crayola has been headquartered in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania since 1903, making Crayola one of America’s favorite made in America toy companies!
