Out of the many reasons that it is beneficial for Americas to buy American made goods, product quality and safety are among the simplest. Much of the reason that the United States looks to foreign countries to purchase products is the low buying price. However, this lower price comes with the high risk of purchasing a low quality and unsafe product.
In order to sell these foreign goods for cheap, overseas suppliers will use substandard components when manufacturing products, and will spend less on safety precautions, such as thorough product inspection. When choosing to purchase American made goods, these low quality and safety standards are avoided.
The United States has implemented various laws and compliance regulations that guarantee an American manufactured product will be of high quality and safe for the consumer. One example stated on www.oehha.ca.gov, is the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, or Proposition 65 in the state of California. This makes it a requirement by the state for businesses to report to the public any chemicals in their products that may be carcinogenic or that can cause reproductive harm.
Unfortunately, these types of laws are few and far between in overseas suppliers, providing further evidence that purchasing goods manufactured in the United States is the safest way for Americans to obtain high quality products.
