Buying American made goods benefits the United States in a multitude of ways, including creating jobs and building national and local economies. However, one less discussed reason to buy products manufactured in the U.S. is that of independence.
America greatly prides itself on the ability to remain self-sustaining and autonomous, but by buying from foreign manufacturers, these virtues are being jeopardized. The amount of foreign product being imported into the United States is on the rise, only furthering our dependence on other countries for basic goods, not to mention increasing the national trade deficit.
More specifically, during times of political conflict, America’s access to these products may be compromised by embargos. In order to avoid these difficulties in trade and to maintain autonomy, it is necessary that American people purchase American made products. This will ensure that the United States may continue to produce and consume many of its essential goods, even in the absence of foreign imports.
